Gold Cash Gold Part 1 & 2
As the videographer and editor fortunate enough to document the culinary magic at Gold Cash Gold in Corktown, I look back on my time with a mixture of nostalgia and gratitude. The restaurant, unfortunately, closed its doors in late 2019, as revealed by Chef Edwards in a heartfelt Detroit Free Press article from that year. Despite its closure, my experiences capturing the essence of Gold Cash Gold remain vivid in my memory.
Being chosen to chronicle the vibrant atmosphere and delectable creations at Gold Cash Gold was a privilege. The bustling energy of the restaurant provided the perfect backdrop for my work, making every shoot both fun and exciting. From the clinking of glasses to the sizzling of pans, the ambiance was electric, mirroring the passion and dedication that went into crafting each dish.
What made Gold Cash Gold truly special was its commitment to sourcing local ingredients from nearby farms in North Corktown. The farm-to-table ethos was not just a marketing slogan but a way of life at GCG. As the videographer, I had the pleasure of documenting this journey—from the farm-fresh produce arriving at the restaurant’s doorstep to the meticulous preparation that transformed those ingredients into mouthwatering masterpieces.
One of the highlights of my role was undoubtedly working alongside Chef Brendon Edwards. His culinary experiences & contributions are a force to be reckoned with, and the camera lens was my tool to capture the magic he orchestrated in the kitchen. Luckily, I was filming in 120 frames per second to capture some of the magic in slow motion. During and after filming, I was treated to the privilege of sampling his creations—an added perk that made my job all the more enjoyable.
The Two-Part Film: The process of creating the marketing video for Gold Cash Gold was captured in a handful a different filming sessions. We delved into the intricacies of their locally sourced ingredients, highlighting the connection between the kitchen and the community. With Edwards diverse dinner creations to desserts, there was a lot to film. The preparation of the diverse range of meals was a spectacle in itself, each frame telling a story of dedication and craftsmanship.
As I reflect on my time spent capturing content for Gold Cash Gold, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for having been part of such a culinary journey. While the restaurant may no longer grace the Corktown streets, the memories we captured in those videos live on, preserving the spirit of Gold Cash Gold and the passion that fueled its success.
In conclusion, the opportunity to document the artistry of Gold Cash Gold was not just a job for me—it was a celebration of culinary excellence, long term friendship and a testament to the power of storytelling through the lens.
